Towns Bluff RV Park and Heritage Center

Towns Bluff Park & Heritage Center is a serene riverside retreat located along the Altamaha River. Situated approximately 8 miles north of Hazlehurst and 5 miles south of Uvalda on U.S. Highway 221, the park offers a tranquil setting for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The Heritage Center serves as both a welcome center and a museum, showcasing artifacts that trace the region’s rich history, including Native American heritage and the era of timber rafting and steamboat commerce on the Altamaha River.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a variety of activities such as hiking, fishing, and boating. The park features several walking trails, including a boardwalk through a river swamp, a butterfly garden, and a 10-station exercise trail. Fishing opportunities abound in the Altamaha River, known for its bream, bass, crappie, and catfish.

For those looking to stay overnight, the park offers 24 RV and tent camping sites, two yurts, and primitive camping areas. Amenities include full hookups, Wi-Fi, restrooms with showers, and a dump station. The park also provides boat ramps for easy river access.

Bullard Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA)

Bullard Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Jeff Davis County spans 17,016 acres of diverse habitats, including pine forests and river wetlands. Managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, it offers hunting for deer, turkey, and small game, as well as fishing and canoeing opportunities along the Altamaha River. The WMA features an archery range, shooting range, and primitive camping sites, with a focus on preserving wildlife and providing outdoor recreational experiences.

Mulliganz Golf Club is a community-focused course just outside Hazlehurst, GA, offering daily play, youth tournaments, and organized events. With ongoing course improvements and a fully stocked pro shop, it’s a welcoming spot for golfers of all ages.

The Three Rivers

The Three Rivers region of Jeff Davis County is where the Ocmulgee and Oconee merge to form the Altamaha River, creating a unique and biodiverse watershed. The Ocmulgee and Oconee converge near Lumber City and Hazlehurst to begin the free-flowing Altamaha, which runs for 137 miles to the Atlantic and is the largest undammed river on the East Coast. This confluence supports vibrant ecosystems, rich fishing (bass, catfish, bream), and scenic paddling opportunities.

Flat Tub WMA

Flat Tub Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is a 7,141-acre conservation area hosting a mix of upland pine and hardwood forests and river bottomlands. Situated along the Ocmulgee River, the WMA offers a diverse habitat supporting numerous wildlife species. It is accessible via four main entry points and features boat ramps at Flat Tub Landing Road and Rocky Hammock Landing Road. Visitors can engage in activities such as hunting (for deer, turkey, squirrel, and waterfowl), river fishing, wildlife viewing, and geocaching (with restrictions during turkey season). Nearby in Coffee County, visitors can tour the Broxton Rocks on the WMA. The area is managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Seven South Plantation

Seven South Plantation is a premier quail hunting destination nestled in the heart of Southeast Georgia. Spanning 1,300 acres, the plantation boasts a diverse landscape of farmland, planted pines, and bottomlands, providing an ideal habitat for wild quail. In addition to its renowned quail hunting, Seven South Plantation offers comfortable lodging, knowledgeable guides, and renowned Southern cuisine, making it a comprehensive outdoor retreat.

The Big House

An Edwardian-era home, built in 1914 by the Sweat Family of Douglas, the Big House has been a family home, restaurant, guest house, flower shop, and more. Today, it houses the Community and Economic Development team for Jeff Davis County. Event space is available and staff can give tours and history lessons during normal business hours.

Historic Mansion + Community Center

Hazlehurst–Jeff Davis Historical Society Museum

Established in 1996, the society operates the Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis Museum, located at 61 E Coffee St., Hazlehurst, GA 31539 . Originally housed in the historic Pace House, a Folk Victorian-style home built around 1900 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 , the museum offers exhibits that showcase the area’s history from Native American times through the present day . The original home burned during historic restoration in 2012, but a replica was rebuilt. Visitors can explore displays and artifacts that depict the county’s agricultural heritage, Native American presence, and local culture.
