Agribusiness of the Year
Ryan McLoon, founder of McLoon Farms LLC in Hazlehurst, Georgia, was honored as Agribusiness of the Year 2022 for his leadership, innovation, and commitment to sustainable farming. Outstanding Woman of the Year

Denise Darley, Director of Jeff Davis Family Connection in Hazlehurst, Georgia, is a passionate community leader dedicated to improving the lives of children and families. Through her role, she has built strong partnerships across education, health, and social services, ensuring that local initiatives address the most pressing needs of the community. Under her leadership, Jeff Davis Family Connection has become a hub for collaboration, evidence‑based solutions, and advocacy for equity and opportunity. Her tireless commitment to strengthening families and empowering others earned her the Women in Leadership Award in 2022, a testament to her vision, resilience, and impact on Jeff Davis County.
Administrative Professional of the Year

Vernice Thompson is the City Clerk of Hazlehurst, Georgia, where she has been serving since 2015. She provides a variety of services to the public and is the custodian of all city records. Thompson also manages grant management, notices, meeting minutes, and requests under the Georgia Open Records Act. Additionally, she serves as the chief finance officer and personnel director. Her professional background includes serving as the treasurer of the Georgia Municipal Clerks Association in 2023. Thompson’s leadership and dedication have been recognized with the title of Outstanding Leadership Company, CITY OF HAZLEHURST.
Citizen of the Year
Dr. Jason Laney is an internist in Hazlehurst, Georgia, and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Jeff Davis Hospital and Emory University Hospital. He received his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine and has been in practice for many years in Hazlehurst. He has expertise in treating bronchitis, hypertension & high blood pressure, diabetes, among other conditions – see all areas of expertise.
